Data on Display, Teacher Certification and Student Dual Enrollment Outcomes & HB 2 GYO Collaboratives
Data on Display
Jacob Kirksey, CIRCLE, Texas Tech University
Explore new tools designed to make Texas education data easier to analyze, visualize, and understand. Members of the LONESTARP3 Data Council will demonstrate these emerging resources and consider how they can help researchers, practitioners, and policy leaders uncover patterns and communicate insights.
Teacher Certification and Student Dual Enrollment Outcomes in Texas
Jonathan R Wivagg, University of Houston, Research Scientist
How does exposure to uncertified teachers during high school influence students’ participation in dual credit courses? This session will explore research examining the relationship between students’ exposure to uncertified teachers in 9th and 10th grades and their dual credit enrollment in 11th and 12th grades. Findings suggest that greater exposure to uncertified teachers is associated with lower rates of dual credit enrollment, even after accounting for student and campus characteristics. Participants will consider what these findings mean for educational opportunity and student pathways to postsecondary education.
HB 2 GYO Collaboratives: Program Design Insights
Sara DeLano, Dallas College, Dean, Founding Executive Director
Jessica Gottlieb, CIRCLE, Texas Tech, Associate Professor Director
This session will explore how the Center for Reigniting the Educator Workforce (CREW) at Dallas College and CIRCLE at Texas Tech University are partnering to evaluate Grow Your Own (GYO) educator preparation programs developed and expanded through Texas House Bill 2 (HB 2). Drawing on findings from an initial white paper, presenters will share insights into the program design decisions made by participating collaboratives as they developed their GYO pathways, highlighting emerging lessons for strengthening Texas’s educator workforce.
