Data on Display, Purposeful Dual Credit & From Residency to Infrastructure
Data on Display
Jacob Kirksey, CIRCLE, Texas Tech University
This session will demo a free tool that turns the reports community colleges already submit to the state into an actionable picture of students who earned a credential that was never awarded, students who are one or two courses from finishing, and what both groups are worth under House Bill 8.
Purposeful Dual Credit: Research and Tools to Expand College and Career Opportunity
John Fink, Senior Research Associate and Program Lead, Teachers College, Columbia University
Over the past five years, the Community College Research Center (CCRC) and UT Austin have partnered with Texas community colleges to better understand and strengthen dual credit opportunities across the state. Drawing on statewide data and fieldwork with highly effective dual credit partnerships, this session will highlight findings on students’ postsecondary and earnings trajectories and lessons from successful college and K–12 partnerships. Participants will also explore a dual credit data dashboard developed by CCRC and UT Austin and learn how this work is helping education leaders use data to strengthen dual credit programs and support student success.
From Residency to Infrastructure: What’s Next for Teacher Residencies in Texas
Sarah Beal, Executive Director, Texas Tech
Erika Mein, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs & Strategic Initiatives, UTEP
Teacher residencies in Texas are entering a new chapter, evolving from locally designed partnerships between educator preparation programs and school districts into a growing part of the state’s educator workforce infrastructure. This session will explore lessons from the evolution of teacher residencies, what high-quality partnerships require in practice, and what recent policy and funding changes could mean for educator preparation programs and districts. Participants will consider both the opportunities ahead and the implementation questions that come with moving promising residency models toward greater scale and sustainability.
